Wendy Eisenberg has dropped a surprise companion album, Wweennddyy Eeiisseennbbeerrgg, featuring extended, reimagined versions of two tracks from their recent self-titled LP. Recorded with bassist Trevor Dunn, violinist Mari Rubio, and drummer Ryan Sawyer, the album stretches the original songs into sprawling 37- and 9-minute explorations. Eisenberg’s approach aims to explore the fluidity of time and genre, transforming pop songs into ambient, jazz, or experimental soundscapes.

The album’s structure is a deliberate experiment—an extension of Eisenberg’s jazz roots and their penchant for genre-blending. They describe the process as a way to perceive their songs differently, allowing sections to evolve into solos or ambient worlds, and urging listeners to experience the shifting landscape of a familiar melody. Eisenberg notes that this approach is about making a pop song stay interesting over extended durations, echoing Cagean ideas about patience and transformation in music.

each now a 37-minute journey that challenges traditional song forms. Eisenberg’s statement emphasizes their desire for songs to feel “infinite,” capable of weathering different contexts and interpretations.

The record is a testament to Eisenberg’s versatility and unorthodox approach, blurring the lines between composition and improvisation. They see the process as an experiment, a way to stretch their material into new shapes—a move inspired by their jazz training and a refusal to be limited by conventional song structures. This method allows the listener to hear the same song anew, with sections eliding into solos and becoming “worlds” within the track.

Wweennddyy Eeiisseennbbeerrgg was released on Joyful Noise and is available now, just in time for Eisenberg’s upcoming tour across Europe and North America. The tour includes stops at festivals like Berlin Jazz Fest and venues such as London’s Cafe OTO, where the artist will perform these extended versions live. Eisenberg’s willingness to experiment with length and form continues to push boundaries, making each performance a unique encounter with their evolving musical universe.
